Using Informit as an ‘Individual’

An individual Informit account gives you access to personalised features that help you save, organise, and manage your research and teaching materials. 

Why create an individual account?

While your school or institution provides access to Informit resources, some features are only available when you create and sign in with your own personalised Informit account.

Creating an individual account allows you to:

  • Access restricted content. Certain video or media items are only visible to logged-in users with appropriate permissions
  • Save favourite items
  • Create and manage media clips
  • Set up alerts to stay informed of new content matching your interests or subject area
  • Keep your research and teaching materials organised in one place. 

How to register 

  1. From the Informit home page, select Login | Register located on the top right corner of your screen. 
  2. Under Are you a new user? click Sign up. 
  3. Enter your details: You will need to provide your email address and a password. For teachers, use your school email so the system can recognise your educator status. 
  4. Verify your account: Check your email for a verification message and follow the link to confirm your registration. 
  5. Once your account is verified, you will be able to sign in and access all features associated with your account. 

Logging In

  1. Go to the top right-hand corner of the Informit home screen and click Login. 
  2. Enter your registered email and password. 

Once logged in, you can: 

  • Access restricted videos or media content. 
  • Save searches, clips, and favourite items. 
  • Receive alerts for new content relevant to your subjects or topics. 

Note: If your institution uses Single Sign-On (SSO), you may need to first sign in through your institution’s portal and then sign in to your individual Informit account to access personalised features. 

Managing your account 

 After logging in, click My Account in the top right corner to: 

  • Update your personal information or password. 
  • View your favourites and saved searches. 
  • Access Created Clips and manage sharing links. 
  • Review alerts you have set up for new content. 

Troubleshooting 

  • Forgot your password? Click Forgot Password on the login page to reset it via email. 
  • Access issues? Ensure your email is recognised by your institution. Contact your librarian or Informit support if issues persist. 
  • Restricted content not visible? Check that you are logged in with your individual account; some media items require this to view.
