Accessing Informit | Using Informit as an ‘Individual’
Informit provides personalised access through individual accounts. Creating your own account allows you to access restricted content, save your searches, favourite items, create clips, and receive alerts for new content. This guide walks you through setting up your account and logging in.
Why you need an individual account
While your school or institution provides access to Informit’s databases, some features require an individual login:
- Access to restricted content: Certain video or media items are only visible to logged-in users with appropriate permissions.
- Personalised features: Save favourite items, create and manage clips, and set up alerts.
- Tracking and organisation: Keep your research and teaching materials organised in one place.
How to register
Go to the Informit home page: Click the Login button at the top right corner of your screen.
- Select “Login” or “Register”: If you do not already have an individual account, click the link to register.
- Enter your details: You will need to provide your name, email address, and a password. For teachers, use your school email so the system can recognise your educator status.
- Verify your account: Check your email for a verification message and follow the link to confirm your registration.
- Once your account is verified, you will be able to log in and access all features associated with your account.
Logging In
- Go to the top left-hand corner of the Explore or Explore Media screen and click Login.
- Enter your registered email and password.
Once logged in, you can:
- Access restricted videos or content.
- Save searches, clips, and favourite items.
- Receive alerts for new content relevant to your subjects or topics.
Tip: If your organisation uses Single Sign-On (SSO), you may need to log in through your institution’s portal first and then access individual features with your Informit account.
Managing your account
After logging in, click My Account in the top right corner to:
- Update your personal information or password.
- View your favourites and saved searches.
- Access Created Clips and manage sharing links.
- Review alerts you have set up for new content.
Troubleshooting
- Forgot your password? Click Forgot Password on the login page to reset it via email.
- Access issues? Ensure your email is recognised as a teacher or student at your institution. Contact your librarian or Informit support if issues persist.
- Restricted content not visible? Check that you are logged in with your individual account; some media items require this to view.
