Database Improvements: AGIS | Update October 2025

Improvements to AGIS Legal Collection

1. Removal of Open Access International title records

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering the most relevant and valuable legal resources, Informit is strengthening the AGIS Legal Collection by refining its focus and coverage.

From 8 November 2025, abstract-only international Open Access title records will be moved to a new archive database (AGIS International Index). This refinement ensures the AGIS Legal Collection continues to serve as the premier resource for authoritative and comprehensive legal publications from Australasia and the Asia-Pacific.

This allows us to place even greater emphasis on:

  • Regional relevance – prioritising content from and about Australia, New Zealand, and the Asia-Pacific, complemented by carefully selected articles from other key jurisdictions.

  • Full-text access – ensuring the most valuable legal resources are supported with full-text availability and enriched metadata records.

  • Depth and quality – strengthening AGIS’s role as the go-to collection for both current and historical sources of legal scholarship.

Key Updates:

  1. Removal of abstract-only records of Open Access International titles from the AGIS Legal Collection

  2. Creation of new archive database: AGIS International Index
  3. They will be removed from 8/11/2025

2. Ceasing application AGLIB

Following consultation with legal librarians and industry experts, Informit will streamline metadata practices by ceasing the application of AGLIB thesaurus terms from 8 November 2025.

AGLIB terms, originally developed by the Attorney-General’s Information Service, have not been updated in over a decade. To ensure AGIS remains aligned with current standards and delivers the richest possible discovery experience, Informit is focusing its resources on continuing to apply FAST subject terms and other descriptive metadata.

What this means for you:

  • No loss of information – all existing records will retain their AGLIB terms.

  • Continued precision – legal, legislation, treaty, and jurisdiction fields will continue to be indexed.

  • Improved discovery – enhanced metadata practices will strengthen consistency and searchability across the collection.

Key Updates:

  1. Ceasing to apply AGLIB terms from 8/11/2025.

  2. All existing records will maintain their AGLIB terms

  3. FAST subject, Legal, legislation, treaty and jurisdiction fields will continue to be indexed
